Children’s Ministry Building

2013-14 CAPITAL CAMPAIGN

CHILDREN’S MINISTRY BUILDING AND RENOVATED OFFICES

“Your children shall return… and a little child shall lead them.”
(Jer. 31, Isa. 11)

In 2013-14 we will have a campaign and raise money for a Children’s Ministry Building that will host a new nursery, Sunday School/preschool rooms, a multi-purpose room.  Currently we have a great preschool ministry (which we want to continue and enhance), but we cannot have daycare or afterschool care because of our facilities.  Daycare and afterschool care are HUGE needs in our area.  A 2012 study found that within a fice mile radius 1,360 children need full or part-time care (and most prefer full time).  Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them” (Mt. 19:14).  He also said, “Whoever welcomes a little child in my name welcomes me” (Mt. 18:5).  The Children’s Ministry Building will also host our Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, summer children’s camps, and more.  The extent of what we build will be determined by the funds raised.

There are really 4 parts to our campaign in Phase II.
1) The Building of a Children’s Minsitry Building .  Each part of this building if roughly 6,950 square feet and costs $1.45 million each.
Here is a link to a smilebox video on the building.
2) The moving of the church offices to the Fellowship Hall buidling (middle building on our campus).  We would move the new offices to the classrooms vacated by the children.  The Fellowship Hall itself would not be renovated. This is a renovation of 3,284 sf at a cost of $287,000.  This was a part of our long range plans dating from 1998. The current, 1940′s house that contains our current offices will be torn down to make room for the children’s ministry buildings.
3) Expanding our parking.  From the drawing above we see the addition of over 120 new paved parking spaces and a new, safer entrance/exit.  Parking will be placed behind the buildings, so the campus will look nice.
4) A benevolent component.  Whenever our church has a capital building campaign we have included an outreach/benevolent component of about 10%.  The session has asked that we consider a new daughter church.  The presbytery has approved this in concept and has made this their next priority in new church development.  We hope to start a new daughter church in the Dutch Fork High School attendance zone.

There is no doubt that raising funds for this project is an act of tremendous faith, but there is also a tremendous need.  It is hoped this will continue our tremendous ministry with children and young families.  Historically, one third of our new members the last ten years from from our preschool.  Our current mortgage will be paid off before the we incur more debt for the new project, and we have someone who has pledged a large gift to get our project off of the ground.
