A Congregational meeting of the members of Lake Murray Presbyterian Church was held at 11:00 am on September 11, 2011, as previously noticed, for the purpose of electing new Elders and Deacons for 2012.

A quorum was declared and the meeting was opened with a prayer by Dr. Ben Sloan, who served as moderator.  Elder Ben Breland, Chair of the Nomination Committee, was recognized.  He recognized the other members of the Nomination Committee and then presented the Committee’s recommended nominees, with those in attendance asked to stand, as follows:

elders: Mike Murrell, Alan Peace, Doug Martin, Judy Jarrett Brown, Ruthanne Nicholson, Billy Higgenbotham, Dan McGehee, Michael Long, Ellen Edwards (1-year term for Youth Elder)

 Deacons: Midge Burgess, Karen Goon Johnson, Gerald Rye, Cynthia Morrow, Shirley Salisbury, Stuart Peters

             The floor was opened for nominations.  A motion was made, seconded and passed to close the nominations and accept the Committee’s recommended nominees by acclamation.

             A motion was made, seconded and passed to close the meeting with a prayer which was done by Dr. Ben Sloan.

The Session of Lake Murray Presbyterian Church met at Lake Murray Presbyterian Church with the following in attendance:  Senior Pastor, Dr. Ben Sloan; Elders, Jennifer Aldrich, Bill Bearden, Ben Breland, Lovic Brooks, Peggy Burgin, Mark Clement, Gail Comalander, Eddie Edwards, John Ferguson, Alan Grimsley, Pam Harrell, Danny Hood, Pam Hutto, Robbie Johnson, Larry Owens, Ray Peterson, Eric Rogers, Phil Trefsgar, Lorrie Watkins, and Mze Wilkins.  Excused:   Dave Saldivar.

The meeting was opened with a reading of Psalm 138 and a prayer by Ben Sloan.Prayer cards were signed for those on prayer list, as well as new officers.

Old Business:None    

Committee Reports                Presbyterian Women-                 No representative attending.

                Deacons-           Rebecca Good reported that Anne Cruz and Susan Powell held August 28 meeting with new volunteers for Helping Hand and she explained the new structure with Anne and Susan as leaders.  Deacons made 76 contacts for month according to those at last meeting but actual number probably over 100.

                Finance Report-   Alan Grimsley reviewed highlights of monthly results and meeting.  Written minutes and reports were distributed.  Stewardship plans were discussed as reflected in minutes.

 

                Administration­-      Jenny Aldrich reported that Committee scheduled to meet tomorrow evening.  Still need a couple of volunteers for Presbytery meeting at LMPC on October 16.  Pam Harrell agreed to be remaining commissioner.  SC Presbyterians meeting on September 21 at Saxe Gotha to discuss MN Fellowship Gathering.

                Christian Education-       Bill Bearden reported that 70-80 in disciple class.  Committee approved expenses and curriculum for Sunday school.  Confirmation class consists of 15 youths.  Preschool is totally full.  Written minutes of last meeting distributed.

                Fellowship-      No meeting, but Phil Trefsgar reported Rally Day breakfast attended by around 30 people, a small but expected number.  Clarified that Wednesday evening dinners and programs would be all Wednesdays in October and first Wednesday in November.  Meals will be $5 donation.

                Evangelism & Assimilation-  Gail Comalander reminded everyone of Back to Church Sunday on 9/18 and each elder was asked to invite someone.

                Worship-    Did not meet but Ben Breland reported working on continued sound issues and investigating costs and details of new system.  Broke even on Master Singers concert.  Goal to have contemporary service by beginning of 2012.

                Long Range Planning-    No meeting.

                Property-        No meeting except for informal one at 12:30 am waiting on City to arrive and address water issue which interfered with preschool last Thursday.

                Missions       Written minutes distributed.  John Ferguson presented Committee motion for Tuesday before Thanksgiving at HUB which was passed.  Pay Peterson reported on possible partnership with Peru church.  Pam McAbee to be invited to speak on one Wednesday night on her mission.

                Personnel-  No meeting for new developments.

                New Church Development -         Robbie Johnson reported that he made his planned report to Presbytery Committee on new development conference he attended as mention at last meeting. Need to add more people to NCD task force, especially younger people.  Need to plan for staff person before next step can be taken.

                New Business         None.

                Session wished Ben Sloan Happy Birthday.

                Next meeting on October 9.

The Session of Lake Murray Presbyterian Church met at Lake Murray Presbyterian Church with the following in attendance:  Senior Pastor, Dr. Ben Sloan; Parish Associates, Rev. Bo Stalcup; Elders,  Bill Bearden, Ben Breland, Lovic Brooks, Peggy Burgin,  Dede Elmore, John Ferguson, Alan Grimsley, Danny Hood, Pam Hutto, Robbie Johnson, Larry Owens, Ray Peterson,  Lyn Richards, Eric Rogers, Dave Saldivar,  and Mze Wilkins.   

A motion was made, seconded and passed to accept into membership by transfer of letter (1) Fred & Debbie Yandle from Aveleigh Presbyterian in Newberry and (2) Ronald & Angela Shermer from Asbury United Methodist in Columbia.
