Sermon: ?Better Than The ?X Factor??????Dr. J. Ben Sloan

Scripture Lesson:? Rev. 5:8-14; 2 Chronicles 29:10-18?

Ben?s Bin?. ?? Stewardship
In the movie ?Return of the King? the prince came back to claim his throne.? The steward of the land did not want to give it up- but was reminded that a steward is not a king.? In our lives, the temptation is to think we deserve and have earned all by ourselves all that we have.? We forget that we were not in control of where we were born, who our parents were, what our breaks were (the X factor), or the blessing of God.? God is the King, we are stewards.? A steward is to take care of the gifts, to manage them well and to honor the King.? This year we are reminded that we are rooted in God?s grace and reaching to bear fruit for Him.?? The kingdom?s moving forward depends on our ability to catch the vision and to give toward the vision- of reaching children, youth, parents, adults for Christ.?? We give not because we own things- we came with nothing and will leave with nothing.? We give back to the owner recognizing that in the end He owns us, and we want to honor Him.?? This Sunday 11/16 is Stewardship Dedication Sunday.? You will be invited to come forward and drop your tithe, offering, time & talent, and pledge card in the baskets up front.?? As you do so, please look deep in your heart to reset it to Honor the Lover of Your Soul- the King of kings.
We have been waiting until the last minute to take up the last thirty parking spaces we needed to take before we graded and paved.?? But now there is a disconnect between our west side of our church campus and parking (toward Chapin), and our east side of our church campus (toward White Rock).? In effect, this makes our parking tighter for this week.? Next week, we will gravel the old parking area, but this week it will not be graveled.? I have asked our elders, deacons, and staff to go in the east graveled drive (toward White Rock) and park behind the Children?s Ministry Building.? We hope to pave the new drives and parking by the end of November.? We will be thankful for that!
We had our first Dayschool Board meeting this week.? The Dayschool Board is Peggy Burgin (elder), Libby Smith (deacon), Charlene Morgan (PW), Trish Edwards (at large), Mary Higginbotham (parent), Elinor Harris (parent), and staff- Ben Sloan, Tracie Stewart, Jane Jermac, Mele Baize.? We decided that the Dayschool will be open 6:45 AM until 6:00 PM with a late fee time until 6:30 PM.? We approved a competitive teacher salary, and are working on tuition rates, bylaws, calendar, and publicity.
This week the electricity will be turned on in the Children?s Ministry Building (just in time).?? Most of the Covered Walkway is being built off site.? Many sidewalks around the building, required by Richland County will be poured this week.? The beginning of the playground equipment is to come this week.? Thank you to all who pray and give to make this project go forward.? I am inviting lots of friends and dignitaries to the dedication on 12/21.
