The Session of Lake Murray Presbyterian Church met at Lake Murray Presbyterian Church with the following in attendance: Senior Pastor, Dr. Ben Sloan; Elders, Jennifer Aldrich, Bill Bearden, Ben Breland, Lovic Brooks, Peggy Burgin, Mark Clement, Eddie Edwards, John Ferguson, Alan Grimsley, Danny Hood, Pam Hutto, Robbie Johnson, Ray Peterson, Lyn Richards, Eric Rogers, Phil Trefsgar, and Lorrie Watkins. Excused: Gail Comalander, Larry Owens, and Mze Wilkins.
The meeting was opened with devotion on the eighth commandment and a prayer by Ben Sloan.
The following

Old Business:
A second reading of changes to operations manual on Session meetings and rolls, Congregational meetings, and Nominating Committee as set forth in the agenda. A motion was made, seconded, and approved to adopt the proposed changes as stated.
Committee Reports
Presbyterian Women-
No representative and no report.
Deacons-
Jason White reported 146 contacts for month, including 15 hospital visits.
Finance Report-
Alan Grimsley reviewed monthly financial results which were distributed along with minutes from last meeting. It was a very good July.
No meeting or report but Ben Sloan noted that bus port up. It is taller than planned but works.
Administration-
Jenny Aldrich reported on plans for Presbytery meeting at Church on October 16 with registration at 1:30 and meeting tentative to begin at 2:00. Jason White to ask Deacons to assist. Elders urged to attend. Congregational meeting for officer nominations requested for September 11, 2011 which was approved. Ben Breland, Nominations Committee Chair, reported full slate achieved and ready for presentation. Names provided. Ben Sloan acknowledged Lyn Bigler hard work over the years maintaining historical records and discussed steps taken to secure and preserve records.
Christian Education-
Scheduled to meet tomorrow evening. Ben Sloan reported that Youth Subcommittee met and decided on schedule for year and theme “Want you be my neighbor”. Discussion on Missions Committee adopting a related slogan.
Fellowship-
No meeting. Phil Trefsgar reported that Smorgasbord meal went well. 2 rooms left at Montreat. Adult Christmas dinner set for December 1 at Mid Carolina CC.
Evangelism & Assimilation-
Meeting next week. Ben Sloan reported that new member orientation on August 21 and “Back to Church” Sunday set for September 18.
Worship-
Ben Breland reported that Tartan Sunday set for November

Property-
Eddie Edwards reported that nursery renovation going well. Ken Jermac continues to assist as volunteer on this and other projects.
Missions –
Written minutes distributed. John Ferguson reported that $2400 added for Laura Edwards’s mission trip. Christmas planning underway.
Personnel-
Eric Rogers reported that Committee approved Charles Elliott as guest preacher on August 28 and Jerri Paris Perkins and Amos Disasa on October Sundays when Ben Sloan is scheduled off. Thornwell’s new president, Elliot Smith, to preach on Tartan Sunday.
New Church Development -
Robbie Johnson reported on NCD and Evangelism conference attended by him and 15 other people from Trinity Presbytery. He will be making report at Presbytery committee meeting later this month. Unique ideas from conference included coffee shop church, church at bar, joggers church and several new churches without a building. As to new churches in Trinity, all going well. New Kirk moving along, New Faith at over 200, Downtown has 60 to 70 at monthly service and 20 to 30 meet weekly, and Cherokee Charter service set for October 23. Elders urged to attend.
New Business
None but noted Choir at Retreat next Sunday and next meeting on September 11.
