3. Jesus & the Prodigal

The theme of this book by Kenneth Bailey is that Jesus’ Parable of the Prodigal Son is a re-telling of the “Jacob Story”, the founding saga of the nation of Israel.  Both stories are about a father and his two sons, the younger of which get the family inheritance and moves to a foreign (gentile) land.  Dr. Bailey notes 51 connections between Jesus’ parable and the Story of Jacob which is found in Genesis, Chapters 27 - 33.  Amazingly Jesus writes himself into his parable.
