Lake Murray Presbyterian Church

We are glad you have been visiting or are interested in visiting Lake Murray Presbyterian Church.

We are one of the fastest growing Presbyterian Churches in our state.

That means there are lots of visitors like you, and we purposefully try to make you feel welcome and at home in God’s house at LMPC.

Regularly, we try to have special programs for visitors – Orientation Classes, What Presbyterians Believe Classes (that includes information about LMPC), fellowship events and more.

Who are we?

We are Christian-

That means with other Christians we follow Jesus Christ as our example and trust in Him as our savior.  With other Christians we believe in the doctrines of the Apostles’ Creed- like God made us, loved us enough to send Christ to us, and sends the Holy Spirit to guide and counsel us.  We believe that those who believe in God have the hope of heaven.

We are Protestant -

We believe we are saved by grace alone, through faith alone, and we derive our authority from the Bible alone.

We are Presbyterian -

Presbyterian derives its name from the word “presbyter” or elder.  We are a people governed by elders as opposed to being run by the minister/bishop or the whole congregation.
Theologically Presbyterians emphasize the idea that God is in control, and that we should love God with our minds.  Presbyterians emphasize that we are to be stewards of the gifts God gives us.

We are Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) -

We are part of the largest Presbyterian denomination in the United States.
One of the things that distinguishes us from many other Presbyterian denominations is that we believe that leadership is open to women as well as men.   The link below will tell you more about our denomination.

We are part of the Synod of the South Atlantic- one of the largest synods (over 250,000 members) in our denomination consisting of Presbyterians in South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. (www.synodofsouthatlantic.org)
We are part of Trinity Presbytery consisting of roughly 14,000 Presbyterians in 12 counties (www.trinity-presbytery.org).

We are Part of the Fellowship of Presbyterians

This affiliation’s motto is to “Build flourishing churches that make disciples of Jesus Christ.”
While we are within the broader Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) we hold to a tighter set of beliefs and morals and provide a witness in this regard to the church and to the world.
