MISSION FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How is Mission at LMPC Funded?
We have three sources of funding for missions: General Budget, Mission Fundraiser and Designated Giving
General Budget
The session sets a portion of the general operating budget of the church for mission work each year. In addition to general mission work these funds are used to support our presbytery, church planting and a variety of organizations like Montreat, Police Chaplains, and Presbyterian support groups.
Mission Fundraising
LMPC designates the month of March as Mission Month and the Mission Committee conducts a mission fundraiser for a wide variety of mission work. The Church and Missions Committee support organizations such as, Good Works, We Care, Thornwell Children’s ministry, Mission Trips to Mexico, as well as, international missions,
Designated Giving
Lake Murray Presbyterian Church welcomes all designated gifts of any amount for missions. All special gifts should be noted in the check memo line so that they are directed to the appropriate project. On behalf of the Missions Committee, thank you for your continued support to missions, your generous gifts, and continued prayers. Click here to learn more about the mission program of LMPC.
What is Mission Month?
March is designated each year as mission month at LMPC. The Mission Committee works hard to serve the needs of the various local, regional and international mission works which are supported by the church.  These funds are used for special needs in our community, region, and allows us to continue serving our brothers and sisters in Christ internationally.    We are blessed by the generosity of our members and congregation.

How do we spend mission money at LMPC?
The Missions Committee at LMPC oversees the funds raised.  The funds are given to local, regional, and international missions that the church supports (See FAQ sheet). Some of the missions supported by LMPC are We CARE, the local food panty,  GOoDWorks (Housing help), Boys and Girl Scouts, Thornwell Children’s Home located in Clinton, SC,  and our international missions (Building churches/clinics/schools in Mexico, Peru, and South Sudan).
Why do we send people to far away places for mission work?
Called by God to help our brothers and sister in Christ, leaders and members of our congregation work with Christians in other countries and cultures to serve others which is a vital part of the Church of Christ.  The letters of Paul show that the connections across cultures are fundamental to the Christian life.  We believe that God has called us into our partnerships with churches in Mexico, Peru and South Sudan.
Connected In order to continue an ongoing relationship with our brothers and sisters in Christ, we return to the same communities each year.  This allows us to get to know the people and congregations in the places where we travel.
Changed In writing to the church in Rome, Paul notes that he wants to visit with them, so they can mutually encourage each other.  Our mission journey is to seek, bless, and encourage the people with whom we serve abroad.  The Holy Spirit works through each of us to serve our brother and sisters locally and internationally.  Modern mission trips are as much about faith formation as mixing concrete and painting walls.
Caring We are all called to serve the people and churches in other places.  Our mission partners value our presence and are encouraged in their faithfulness not only by our presence but by our willingness to work and care for them.
